\u00a0“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things!<\/em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>But few things are necessary, or only one thing, for Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her.”\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\u00a0\u00a0Lk 10:41\u201342.<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
Dear Brothers and Sisters!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Today, the Gospel of Luke continues to present the mission of Jesus. Mainly, it describes that after a long-mission journey, Jesus entered a particular village and met the two sisters of Lazarus, Maria and Martha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In this short scene, Gospel throws us the example of hospitality to others. In our culture, hospitality is a kind of respectfulness, brotherhood, love, and care for one another. Therefore, it is also pervasive that someone will show hospitality to their guests to express their respect, like what we heard in the Gospel today. We should also notice that the customs associated with receiving guests at that time are shown by anointing<\/strong> the [special] guests with oil [Psalm 23,5; Lk 7:47; Jn 12,3] and washing<\/strong> their feet [Gen 18,4-5; Lk 7,44] <\/p>\n\n\n\n
On many occasions, Jesus Christ shows respect to those who follow him. He even received hospitality from people of all social backgrounds. For example, the Gospel notices, “in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners were coming and<\/em> dining with Jesus and his disciples” <\/strong>[Mt 9:10]; or when he comes to Peter’s house and cures his mother-in-law from fever [cfr Mt 8:14-15]. And today, we heard that He also received the hospitality act of Mary and Martha. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
And Jesus is faced with the different types of those who hospitalize him. In the first place, Mary shows her sincere respect to the special guest, Jesus, by “sat at the feet of Jesus and<\/em> was listening to his teaching”<\/strong> [Lk 10:39]. At the same time, Martha also shows her respect by putting herself in the “preparations<\/strong>.” But unfortunately, this leads her to be more distracted [cfr Lk 10:40]. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Indeed, hospitality comes from a significant gesture of encounter. And in the first place, it is God himself who comes and visits us; God who invites us to the banquette. God invites us to be his guests [Mt 11,28]. Second, Jesus’ visitation encourages us to show reciprocal hospitality. He does not condemn and judge the spontaneous reaction, not Mary or Martha. But by saying, “But few things<\/em> are necessary, or only<\/em> one thing<\/em>, for Mary has chosen the better part, which will not be taken away from her”<\/strong> [Lk 10:42].<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oggi il Vangelo di Luca continua a presentare la missione di Ges\u00f9. Principalmente, descrive che dopo un lungo viaggio di missione, Ges\u00f9 entr\u00f2 in un villaggio e incontr\u00f2 le due sorelle di Lazzaro, Maria e Marta.
In questa breve scena, il Vangelo ci d\u00e0 l’esempio dell’ospitalit\u00e0 verso gli altri. Nella nostra cultura, l’ospitalit\u00e0 \u00e8 un tipo di rispetto, fratellanza, amore e cura per l’altro. Pertanto, \u00e8 anche diffuso il fatto che qualcuno mostri ospitalit\u00e0 ai propri ospiti per esprimere il proprio rispetto, come abbiamo sentito nel Vangelo di oggi. Dobbiamo anche notare che le cultureassociate al ricevimento degli ospiti a quel tempo sono mostrate dall’unzione degli ospiti [speciali] con olio [Salmo 23,5; Lc 7,47; Gv 12,3] e dalla lavanda dei piedi [Gen 18,4-5; Lc 7,44].<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In molte occasioni, ci Ges\u00f9 mostra ilsuo rispetto a coloro che lo seguono. Ha persino ricevuto ospitalit\u00e0 da persone di ogni livello sociale. Per esempio, il Vangelo nota che “Mentre sedeva a tavola nella casa, sopraggiunsero molti pubblicani e peccatori e se ne stavano a tavola con Ges\u00f9 e con i suoi discepoli ” [Mt 9,10]; oppure quando si reca a casa di Pietro e guarisce la suocera dalla febbre [cfr. Mt 8,14-15]. E oggi abbiamo sentito che ha ricevuto anche l’ospitalit\u00e0 di Maria e Marta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
E Ges\u00f9 si trova di fronte alle diverse tipologie di coloro che lo ospitano. In primo luogo, Maria mostra il suo sincero rispetto per l’ospite speciale, Ges\u00f9, “seduta ai piedi del Signore, ascoltava la sua parola.” [Lc 10,39]. Allo stesso tempo, anche Marta mostra il suo rispetto mettendosi ai “preparazioni”. Purtroppo, per\u00f2, questo la porta a essere pi\u00f9 distratta [cfr. Lc 10,40].<\/p>\n\n\n\n
L’ospitalit\u00e0, infatti, nasce da un significativo gesto di incontro, cio\u00e8 l\u2019incontro tra Dio e uomo. In primo luogo, \u00e8 Dio stesso che viene a visitarci; Dio che ci invita al banchetto. Dio ci invita a essere suoi ospiti [Mt 11,28]. In secondo luogo, la visita di Ges\u00f9 ci incoraggia a mostrare ospitalit\u00e0 reciproca. Egli non condanna e non giudica la reazione spontanea, n\u00e9 Maria n\u00e9 Marta. Ma dicendo: “ma di una cosa sola c’\u00e8 bisogno . Maria ha scelto la parte migliore, che non le sar\u00e0 tolta” [Lc 10,42].<\/p>\n\n\n\n
