But, unfortunately, according to Synoptics, by what they do, the Publican, a.k.a tax collectors, were considered among the sinners [Mat 9:10; Mrk 2:15-16: Luke 15:1-2]. For that reason, the Jewish religious leaders detested and marked them as ceremonial unclean and excluded them from all religious activities.

But today, we see another part of Zaccheus who shows us the open process of being a missionary disciple. First, his curiousness leads him to a real encounter with Jesus. He realizes himself as a sinner, outcast, unclean, and unworthy person to others. He assumably has heard about Jesus, who received people like him, going to their house and healing the ten lepers, who were also marked as unclean persons.

Zaccheus’ deep curiosity directly impacted when Jesus saw him and said: “Zacchaeus, come down quickly, because it is necessary for me to stay at your house today!” [Lk 19:5]. Jesus approached him first and welcomed him with the love and joy of merciful God. Lord Jesus takes place, not as a royal waiting for an invitation but as who invites sinners to repent and rejoice in God’s love. Curiosity creates guilties that lead us to the act of conversion by receiving the Lord’s invitation.

Zaccheus has an “ecstasy” experience when he encounters Jesus. The encounter took him out of himself, overwhelmed with God’s Love and beauty. He suddenly proclaims: “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have wronged any man of anything, I restore him fourfold” [Lk 19:8].

This experience with God opens another love to his neighbors, followed by the act of total conversion. Pope Francis encourages us to also have the same “ecstasy” leads us to love our neighbors:

“Yet we can also experience ecstasy when we recognize in others their hidden beauty, their dignity and their grandeur as images of God and children of the Father”
[Pope Francis, Christus Vivit, 164].

Salam Misioner RDHJ23

Italiano

Zaccheo, figura della conversione missionaria

Cari fratelli e sorelle,

[Christus Vivit 164].

THIRTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR C | ROMAN MISSAL | LECTIONARY First Reading Wisdom of Solomon 11:22–12:2 Response Psalm …

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false

22,7
13,31,17,18,29
post-1098","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-homily","category-sunday-preaching-rdhj","tag-shortcutechism","tag-bulanmisi2022","tag-rdhj2021","tag-renunganmisioner","tag-sundaysermon
["GET
